Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer (Level depends on the candidate) research, develops, designs, tests, evaluates, and documents mechanical components, subassemblies, equipment, and systems, applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for system specification, machine tooling and fixture design, as well as continuous improvement efforts on existing machines to improve reliability, throughput, uptime and safety. Hands-on experience of automated equipment assembly, electro-mechanical equipment and mechanical prototype fixtures is required. The position also requires interacting with contract manufacturers for outsourced projects.
Responsibilities
· Design electromechanical and robotic systems from a conceptual phase through market release.
· Research, develop, design, test, evaluate, and implement electromechanical components, subassemblies, equipment and automation systems.
· Design jigs and fixtures for inspection, testing, etc. as necessary
· Evaluate final products for overall performance, reliability, and safety.
· Produce design & test specification.
· Perform tolerance analysis of designs at the system and subsystem level
· Conduct system level integration and validation of designs (testing and troubleshooting)
· Plan and perform tests to analyze the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems
· Continuous improvement related to enhancing system performance, reliability and manufacturability
· Researching and identifying new technologies and strategic partners; building relationships with existing and new suppliers to advance the state-of-the art of hardware; considering implications of design choices on future product strategies
· Drive full documentation of design including BOM, drawings and procedures
· Oversee and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
· Manage small to mid-sized projects from concept to production.
· Collaborate in a team environment working with Hardware, Software and Process.
· Participates in team and other assigned meetings
· Travel to outside contractor sites to drive the project progress

Qualifications and Skills
• BS/MS/PhD in Robotic, Mechatronic, Mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering with a minimum of 10 years of mechanical engineering experiences
• Systems level thinker with experience working on complex mechanical and electrical systems.
• Hands-on experience with designing, building and testing prototypes.
• Experience in DFx, tolerance stack-up, FEA, GD&T.
• Technical writing skills.
• Experience with electronics design development and sustainment spanning the full life cycle
• Experience with or knowledge of analytical and finite element modeling (FEM) tools
• Proficiency in electrical design, electronics manufacturing processes, and qualification activities
• Proficient in CAD design (SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM
• Experience in manufacturing systems for semiconductor, machining, automation, materials processing, or other related industrial capital equipment applications (Additive Manufacturing, Semiconductor, Solar, Robotics, CNC, or Biomedical Manufacturing Equipment Design Engineering experience)
• Familiarity with data acquisition systems, sensor feedback, and controls (e.g. Labview, MathLab, etc.)
• Familiarity with sensors including laser, optic, vibration, noise, etc.
• Proficient in automation, automation software and languages (e.g., LabView, MATLAB, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary start-up environment
• Demonstrate ability to work well in a fast-paced interdisciplinary start up environment.
• Experience with additive manufacturing, equipment design used in medical devices or semiconductors is a plus.
